Get started with Dynamed - a key clinical tool to support UHNM staff. What is it? Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care, clinical reference tool. You can use it to find guidance and recommendations on a wide range of diseases and conditions. Information presented can include: epidemiology, history and physical, diagnosis, management, complications, prevention and screening and patient information. All content is fully referenced. How to Access… Who is it for? Dynamed is available to staff at UHNM. Log in You need to login with your NHS OpenAthens username. Either use the link on our Healthcare Resources web page or go directly to the Dynamed OpenAthens login page : Key Features Simple Search Box There is a simple search box where you can enter your search terms. Dynamed Features Dynamed has a range of features to help you to get to good quality information quickly. The key features include: A simple search box, which includes predictive text to help you to use the right search terms. The option to browse topics by specialty. A wide range of clinical calculators. The option to view recent alerts and practice changing updates. You can create a personal account to access more personalised options. Topic Summaries You can view topic summaries for an evidence-based overview of specific topics. Topic summary pages are available in an easy to read format to help you get straight to the information you need. Dynamed is available to our UHNM users via OpenAthens. Installation Instructions: 1. Go to the desktop version and log in with your OpenAthens username  2. Create your personal ebsco account 3. Go to your app store and search for Dynamed 4. Download the app from Ebsco 5. Install and open it. 6. On the authentication screen, select the option "sign in" at the top 7. Sign in with your ebsco personal account details 8. Choose the installation you want The option you choose will depend on how much space you are happy for the app to take up on your phone and whether you are happy to still rely on an Internet connection. 9. Evidence is analysed and synthesised to create information, analysis and recommendations around a wide number of conditions and diseases. Key Features You can search or browse through a wide range of conditions and diseases. Information presented includes: overview, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, management, prognosis. Guidelines, resources and patient information may be included. References are included. You can set up an alert for a topic so that you are informed of the latest practice-changing updates. Dynamed is an evidence-based, point of care, clinical reference tool. You can access all the features of Dynamed on the go via the Dynamed App. Download the Dynamed App Download the free Dynamed App from the iTunes Store or Google Play. Log in to Dynamed Click on the mobile link from the Dynamed toolbar Screen-shot of the Dynamed toolbar Enter your email address Screen-shot of the App request form An authentication key will be emailed to you. Open the Dynamed email from your device. Within 48 hours, tap on the link in the email to authenticate the app. Note: after 48 hours, users will need to request a new authentication key. You can get Dynamed topic updates sent to your inbox – you’ll get the latest evidence updates that are added to Dynamed. You’ll only get an email when there is new content added. Get Alerts On the topic page you are interested in, click the Alert icon and enter your email address. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your alert request. Complete the instructions given in the email. Screen-shot of Dynamed Alert You can view all Dynamed updates by selecting “Recent Updates” on the toolbar. You can then limit the results by category and practice changing updates only. To receive these updates by email, select the Alert icon and follow the instructions. You can then keep this for your own references, or CPD evidence. Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care reference tool. It is available to UHNM staff only. Evidence is assessed and critically appraised in order to develop topic pages detailing the information you need to answer clinical queries. Previous blog entries have explained how you can access Dynamed and perform searches. Viewing Topic Pages The topic pages are split up into sections. You can use the left-hand content list to jump to the section you need. Click the section heading or the section arrow to open the section and view the full-text. You can also use the “Expand All” and “Collapse All” options to open or close all sections. Screen-shot of the full-text You can search the topic page for text.
