Ethos: Resource of the week #30

What is it? EthOS is an e-theses online service provided by the British Library. Participating institutions can deposit a digital copy of the theses of their researchers so that they can be accessed by a wider audience. Key Features You can search the database of theses using a simple search box. You can download a copy of a thesis – note that you will need to register in order to do this. Not all documents can be downloaded. How can it help you? You can use this database to check whether someone has produced a thesis in the topic area you are looking at. You can view a copy of a thesis to see how they are laid out and constructed before you complete your own. How to access it? The Ethos database is freely available online. You will need to register and log in to download a copy of a thesis.

They are drug references, providing authoritative and practical information on the prescribing, monitoring and administration of drugs and medicines. What is it? NHS Choices Behind the Headlines is part of the NHS Choices website . The Behind the Headlines section investigates and analyses reported news headlines on health-related topics – separating fact from fiction or exaggeration at least. Key Features You’ll find analysis of recently reported health topics. The website investigates how the news has been reported; it identifies the research paper that the news is based on and critically appraises the paper to determine whether the reported headlines are justified. Items are presented in chronological order, although you can select to view items by category. How can it help you? The articles created here can show really useful examples of how to critically appraise a paper. Essential OpenAthens maintenance: Saturday 14 April 2018

On Saturday 14 April 2018 Athens/ Eduserv will be carrying out essential maintenance affecting all administrative functions and some end-user/patron services. More details around exact timing will be added to the  status page  in due course.  OpenAthens administration and user functions: The administration area will be unavailable for up to three hours. OpenAthens users will be unable to: register for a new account; reset their password; change their email address; activate their account. The sign-on service should not be affected but considered ‘at-risk’ for the duration of the maintenance period. Access to the administration area will be re-enabled at the earliest opportunity but account list / search features will be unavailable for up to a further six hours. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

TRIP Pro access extended to end March 2019

NHS England-wide access to Trip Pro has been extended for a further 12 months. A ccess to Trip Pro is via IP address: NHS staff should get seamless access to the ‘Pro’ version of Trip from the NHS network.  The features that come with NHS England-wide institutional Trip Pro access, over and above the free version of Trip, are listed   here .

Finding Keele eJournals – step-by-step

Here are some quick step-by-step instructions on how to find out whether you have access to the full-text of an ejournal. 1. Select the “Keele eJournals A-Z” option on the Library Search page Screen-shot of Library Search 4. Enter the Journal Title that you want to check; select the search button Screen-shot of the eJournal Search page 5. The list of titles that match your search terms will be presented in a list.
