NHS Athens for Students on Placement

Students on placement with the NHS are eligible to apply for an NHS Athens username and password in order to access NHS-subscribed resources for the  organisation that they are on placement with . This is only available for the  duration of your placement . This is known as an  NHS Trust Athens account . You can find instructions on how to apply on our Athens page, under the tab "Students on Placement" . You need to follow these instructions, otherwise your application may be rejected. Resource of the week #4: Dynamed

What is it? Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care, clinical reference tool. Evidence is analysed and synthesised to create information, analysis and recommendations around a wide number of conditions and diseases. Key Features You can search or browse through a wide range of conditions and diseases. Information presented includes: overview, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, management, prognosis. Guidelines, resources and patient information may be included. References are included. You can set up an alert for a topic so that you are informed of the latest practice-changing updates. Resource of the week #3: NICE Guidelines

What is it? NICE is the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. They provide evidence-based guidance and advice to the health, public health and social care sectors. Key Features They provide guidance on a wide range of topics and service areas: Conditions and diseases Health Protection Lifestyle and wellbeing Population Groups Service delivery, organisation and staffing Settings Example screen-shot from NICE Guidelines How can it help you? NICE guidelines include recommendations of care and treatment. Some can provide tools to help you to implement the guidelines. NICE provide references of the evidence that has been used to compile the guideline. How to access it? NICE Guidelines are freely available on the Internet . You can browse through the sections or complete a simple search. Videos NICE have their own YouTube channel where you can find more information about them as well as more information about specific guidelines.

What is it? We have a number of journals lists which allow you to search for our subscribed journal titles. The journals that you have full-text access to will depend on the organisation that you work for / study with. Our journals include scholarly articles that report on research, reviews and reflection of practice. These are essential for your studies and provide evidence for healthcare decisions. Key Features You can search the journals list for a particular journal title. You can also browse through the NHS list using the A-Z links. The entry for the journal title will include a link where you can access the full-text. Note that the link may go to a database, where we have a subscription, rather than the publisher’s site.
