  Library Search is a discovery tool, allowing you to find items within the library collections. You can search Library Search without logging in to view books and ebooks available in our collections. By logging in to your library account on Library Search you can access a range of additional functionality, such as: Viewing details of your library account Submitting a request to hold a book for you Adding items to your e-bookshelf Saving searches Note that for NHS users logging in to Library Search does not give you access to full-text items. As an NHS member of staff you access online resources using your NHS OpenAthens username. Anatomy of a Library Card First let’s take a quick look at the most important components of your library card. Your library card and library card number give you access to print resources as well as library services. They confirm that you are a member of the library.  Library Search provides the library catalogue which includes all the books in the collections held at the Health Library (CEC), Campus Library and Health Library at County. NHS staff use Library Search differently from Keele University staff and students. Library Search includes an A-Z list of the ejournal collection available at Keele University. Note that NHS-subscribed ejournals are not available via the Library Search interface. Library Search includes the collection of ebooks available to our Keele University and NHS users. Note that not all the ebooks in the collection are available to all of our users. Follow these steps to find an ebook on Library Search: 1. Start by searching for the book title or topic that you want. Enter your text into the search box and select the “Search books and more” option. I have searched for the book “How to Read a Paper” Screen-shot of search results for book title "How to read a paper" Items matching your search terms will be returned. eBooks may appear in their own right as an entry in the results – you’ll see the text “Online Access” – but don’t click this link. An ebook may also occur when a title has the text “Multiple versions” next to it. Here is an example search – diabetes type 1 and teenagers – and the search results. Search Results presented in Library Search, filter options on the left-hand-side The filter options are all on the left-hand-side of the screen. The filter options may depend on the type of items returned by your search. Typically you can filter by: Full-text availability Resources Type Date (usually publication date) Subject – subject headings available will depend on your results Library – if print items are included in your results Range of filter options presented for this set of results Be aware that restricting your search may bias your results. Library Search allows you to search across a range of library collections; including the book collections at the Health Library and LERC (County, Stafford). You can also search the online resources purchased by Keele University. Note that for NHS users Library Search does not give you access to full-text items. As an NHS member of staff you access online resources using your NHS OpenAthens username. Library Search is a relatively simple search tool and we would not recommend it as a tool to replace health-specific bibliographic databases such as medline or cinahl.
