All NHS staff can register for an NHS OpenAthens username / password. This will give you access to a wide range of online resources such as ebooks, ejournals and databases. Make sure you follow the NHS OpenAthens checklist to set up your account quickly. Checklist 1. Register online Complete the online form to register for your account. 2. Enter your NHS details Make sure you enter your NHS email address and work details. Your application can then be processed automatically. 3. Select the correct NHS organisation We support 3 Athens groups. Make sure you enter the correct organisation that represents where you work: University Hospitals of North Midlands, North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare or GPs and CCGs in Staffordshire. 4. When you move to another NHS organisation you can take your Athens account with you, by changing your organisation. You need to make sure that you can log in to your account, ie that it has not expired. You will also need to have details for your new job available, such as your email address and work address. 1. Log in to your Athens account. 2. Select the option to “Change Organisation” Screen-shot Athens Account   3. You need to ensure that your email address will match your new organisation, so update your email first. If you have forgotten your Athens password or are having problems accessing a resource, you can try to reset your Athens password. You can do this either: 1. When prompted at the Athens login point, select “Forgot Password?” Screen-shot of Athens login screen 2. Directly via the Password Reset link Screen-shot of Password Reset screen You will need to enter the email address that you registered with your Athens account. You will then be sent an email; you need to follow the instructions it contains to reset your password.

All NHS Athens accounts will have an end-date. This is because we do not know when staff leave the organisation and we need to ensure that only authorised users can access the resources that we have purchased. When your account is due for renewal you will be sent an automatically-generated email from Athens / Eduserv. It will contain instructions on how to request your account to be renewed. You should act on this email promptly. If you have registered your account with your NHS-based email address it will normally be approved and renewed quickly. If you have not used an NHS-based email address, then there may be a delay as your account details will need to be verified, before the account can be approved and renewed. If you are having problems renewing your account, then get in touch with your Athens Administrator . Accounts which expire and are not renewed will be deleted off the system automatically after 3 months, during housekeeping procedures.

NHS staff can register for an NHS Athens account so that they can log on to online resources purchased by the NHS and your library service. An Athens account is also called an openathens account (they changed the name but we are slow to catch on). Register for your Account To register you need to complete the online form . Otherwise your account will be placed on a list for approval. You wont be able to use resources until your account has been approved. Do not use a personal email address such as gmail or yahoo.
