Clinical Key log in error while using the Keele network

We have been experiencing a problem here at the Health Library (CEC, Royal Stoke) whereby staff cannot log in to Clinical Key. I believe that it is a Keele network + un-activated account error ie only ocurring on the Keele network (or via Keele wifi) but only if you have an un-activated Clinical Key account. I have logged a job with elsevier and they are investigating the problem. There is a work-round - log on to a non-Keele computer (ie an NHS computer or use your mobile phone network), log in to Clinical Key (via the browser) and activate your account. You should then be able to log in OK when you go back to your Keele networked computer. There are instructions here Clinical Key: how to log in and activate your account (infoskillsforhealth.blogspot.com) Apologies for any inconvenience.

Browzine article not found on platform error

Searching Browzine Is the best way to find the table of contents for NHS journal issues. You can see a list of recent issues and the table of contents including links to articles. However, we have noticed that an error can occur when trying to link to articles for the most recently published issue. The error may look different depending on the host platform for the article. It usually presents as a form of “not found” error. We believe that this happens when an issue has been published on Browzine before it has been published on the platform. Therefore the article is not listed on the platform yet. An example of the platform may be Ovid, Ebsco or Proquest. There should only be a delay of a day or two before the issue is available on the platform. Please contact the Health Library if you are having any problems accessing full-text articles.

Accessing NHS resources on the Keele network

We know that many of our NHS staff use Keele University networked equipment to access both university and NHS-based resources. This may be via Keele networked computers, wifi access or Keele University logins. You need to be aware that this can have unintended consequences to your access to NHS-based resources. If Keele University has the same subscription, for example to an online journal or database, or even a subscription with the same publisher / provider, then this may negatively impact on your access to NHS resources. What will happen? Usually the resource will deny you access to the NHS-based resource. You may get an error page or there may be no obvious information (other than you don’t get access to full-text). What can you do? Check whether you are logged in correctly by looking for the institution logo or text indicating the resource is from your trust or the Health Library. Check whether the page gives you an option for an alternative log on via a different ins

ePub ahead of Print

ePub ahead of print means that the article is being listed online before it is released in the published journal issue, whether published online or in print. Whether you can access the full-text of the epub-ahead-of-print will depend on the publisher’s rules for our subscription. Some publishers will include ahead-of-print in our subscription and you’ll have no problem accessing them. However, some publishers will not include this access in our subscription. Unfortunately, there is no way of indicating whether the epub-ahead-of-print is available or not on our journal lists. You won’t really be able to tell unless you try to access it and fail. What can you do if you want an unavailable epub-ahead-of-print? Wait – you can wait for the issue to be published that will include the article Apply for an article request – we will see if another library is able to provide a copy. Complete our online form to make a request. If you need any help accessing full-text articles, plea

Using the DOI / PMID tool to find NHS full-text articles

Have you got an article reference and want to find the full-text? Does your reference include the DOI or PMID? DOI is the digital object identifier. This is a code which uniquely identifies an article. So, no matter which platform the article is hosted on or even if the publisher changes, the article will have the same DOI. PMID is the pubmed identifier. This is a reference number for the article held on the Pubmed database. You will always see a PMID for an article if you are searching on Pubmed. Here is an example of a reference: Ultrasound-guided genicular nerves block vs. local infiltration analgesia for total knee arthroplasty: a randomised controlled non-inferiority trial, Cuñat et al Anaesthesia, 2023 Feb;78(2):188-196. doi: 10.1111/anae.15909 PMID: 36351436 . I’ve highlighted in bold the DOI and the Pubmed ID: see them below: DOI = 10.1111/anae.15909 PMID = 36351436 You can now use these bits of the reference to find whether the library has the full-text or
