Training: Supporting Systematic Reviews using EBSCOhost databases

 Ebsco are running 2 training courses this month. These courses cover the new ebsco database interface and will only be suitable for our Keele University users. Supporting Systematic Reviews using EBSCOhost – Part 1 Searching (60 mins) The first of a two part session will introduce the concepts of searching the healthcare literature to support systematic reviews from initial framing of a question, to demonstrate search using PICO(T), searching both keywords and subject terms for CINAHL and MEDLINE on the new EBSCOhost interface. Tuesday 6th January - 10.30am Wednesday 21st January - 2.30pm Supporting Systematic Reviews using EBSCOhost – Part 2 Managing Results (60 mins) This session will introduce options for managing search results after searching the literature on CINAHL and MEDLINE, on the new EBSCOhost interface, in support of systematic reviews. Coronavirus resources - rapid reviews and guidelines

 The research landscape around coronavirus / covid-19 is, not surprisingly, changing at a rapid pace. A range of organisations, royal colleges and publishers are creating rapid reviews and guidelines to help inform clinical staff of practice-changing developments. You can check what is available from a number of providers listed on our coronavirus resources page under the rapid review and guidelines tab . Published content is regularly updated so it is worth checking back regularly or signing up for updates.

Centre for Reviews and Dissemination: Resource of the week #39

What is it? The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination , or CRD, is a research institute based at the University of York. They specialise in evidence synthesis of multiple research studies and complete systematic reviews and economic evaluations to support healthcare decision-making and development of policy. Key Features One of the key resources produced by the CRD is the CRD database. This allows you search for CRD reviews, economic evaluations and health technology assessments. The database allows you to combine search terms using AND, OR or NOT, and use publication date to focus search results. The results list includes items that match your search criteria. The entry for each search record will include the bibliographic information and where possible a link to the full-text. You can select search entries and export them. Resource of the week #6: Cochrane Library

What is it? The Cochrane Library publishes analysis and reviews of research studies that look at the same problem. The aim is to combine research and develop a consensus view of the problem involved, based on the evidence. The Cochrane Library also provides a database which allows you to complete searches against the systematic review collection as well as other collections. You can also browse through the topic list of systematic reviews. Key Features Systematic reviews are developed by completing systematic, detailed literature searches and critical appraisal to identify the relevant evidence. Reviewers often perform meta-analysis to combine results. Conclusions are drawn based on the overall evidence. You can find details of the search within the full-text of the complete review.
