Royal Marsden Manual Online – now available to SSoTP staff

Nursing staff at SSoTP can now access the Royal Marsden Manual online via their NHS Athens username. To access… Login You can start by going to the Health Library home page and clicking the Quick Links option Healthcare Resources . Here you will find links to all the NHS-based resources. Page down to the Royal Marsden section and click the link. Alternatively you can search for Royal Marsden Manual via a search engine and go directly to the website . ClinicalKey eBooks with Videos

Some of the ebooks within ClinicalKey now have accompanying videos. These are linked to the general content of the ebooks and include body part examination techniques. To read ebooks and access the videos you need to have activated your account. On the ebook page you will see a new link if videos are available. Use the video controls to play, pause, rewind or stop the video. Close the video page to go back to the ebook. Screen-shot of video page

Make sure you activate your account on ClinicalKey

If you are using Clinical Key then make sure that you activate your account so that you can make the most of the advanced features, including: Saving content Creating presentations Downloading ebook chapters Activate your Account When you log in to Clinical Key, if your account is NOT activated then you will see the “activate” in the top right-hand corner. Clinical Key – keeping up-to-date

You can use Clinical Key to keep up-to-date with your favourite ejournals by subscribing to e-tocs (electronic table of contents). You will then receive an email when a new issue of the journal is released. Here is a step-by-step guide to subscribing to an etoc: Log in to Clinical Key (see our healthcare resources page ), then click the Journals link under the search box. Using a Cinahl Account

If you register for a Cinahl account you will be able to save searches, save your results and set up alerts. This can save you a lot of re-work and time. Register for a Cinahl Account First of all log in to Cinahl as a Keele user using your Keele computer username and password (this should be automatic if you are on Campus). You will need to remember your username and password so make them something that you will remember or write them down somewhere safe. Note that you need to create a strong password. Working with a Search Strategy in Cinahl

Cinahl is a nursing specialist database. Previous blog items have looked at how you can improve your searching and control how you can view your results. This blog post will show you how to manage your search strategy. View your Searches To view the searches you have already executed, click the “Search History” link underneath the search boxes. You can then use the Search History rows to build up your strategy. Your final search will then include all the search terms and thesaurus terms that you have used. Hints and Tips for Viewing your Results in Cinahl

Cinahl is a nursing specialist database that can help you to find good quality articles and evidence. Once you have run a search you can view the list of articles returned. Page Options You can arrange your results in different formats on the page. For example, show up to 50 articles on one page to avoid a lot of paging; include the abstract so that you can check whether the article is about your topic quickly. View Full-text To view the full-text click the PDF Full Text link if it is available. If there is no direct link to the full text of an article, check our Journals A - Z to find out if we subscribe to that journal title from another database. Cinahl – tips for Searching

Cinahl is a nursing specialist database. It can help you to find good quality research and evidence, focused on nursing topics. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you to use it effectively. Use Quotes When searching with your own keywords, always put phrases (more than one word) in double quotation marks "  " eg “high blood pressure”. This will help to focus your search to that specific phrase. Use Truncation Use truncation after the stem of a word to ensure that you get singular and plurals of words and other variations, eg nurs* gives you nurse, nurses and nursing. This helps you to expand your search to include variations of your keywords. Use the Thesaurus Always back up your keyword search with a thesaurus search (CINAHL headings). Thesaurus terms are added to articles, like an index in a book. This increases the likelihood of you finding articles about that topic. Get Dynamed Mobile

Dynamed is an evidence-based, point of care, clinical reference tool. You can access all the features of Dynamed on the go via the Dynamed App. Download the Dynamed App Download the free Dynamed App from the iTunes Store or Google Play. Log in to Dynamed Click on the mobile link from the Dynamed toolbar Screen-shot of the Dynamed toolbar Enter your email address Screen-shot of the App request form An authentication key will be emailed to you. Open the Dynamed email from your device. Within 48 hours, tap on the link in the email to authenticate the app. Note: after 48 hours, users will need to request a new authentication key. Keep Up-to-Date - Get Dynamed Updates

You can get Dynamed topic updates sent to your inbox – you’ll get the latest evidence updates that are added to Dynamed. You’ll only get an email when there is new content added. Get Alerts On the topic page you are interested in, click the Alert icon and enter your email address. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your alert request. Complete the instructions given in the email. Screen-shot of Dynamed Alert You can view all Dynamed updates by selecting “Recent Updates” on the toolbar. You can then limit the results by category and practice changing updates only. To receive these updates by email, select the Alert icon and follow the instructions. Saving and Sharing in Dynamed

Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care reference tool. It is available to UHNM staff only. Saving & Sharing Topic Pages You can save a permanent link to a topic page. You can then keep this for your own references, or CPD evidence. Viewing Topic Pages in Dynamed

Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care reference tool. It is available to UHNM staff only. Evidence is assessed and critically appraised in order to develop topic pages detailing the information you need to answer clinical queries. Previous blog entries have explained how you can access Dynamed and perform searches. Viewing Topic Pages The topic pages are split up into sections. You can use the left-hand content list to jump to the section you need. Click the section heading or the section arrow to open the section and view the full-text. You can also use the “Expand All” and “Collapse All” options to open or close all sections. Screen-shot of the full-text You can search the topic page for text. Dynamed Search and Results

Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care reference tool to help you to deal with clinical questions as they arise in practice. It is available to UHNM staff only. Search To search Dynamed type your search terms into the text box. Suggestions from the Dynamed topics will appear. You can select one of the terms in the list or carry on with your own text and then click search to view your results. Accessing Dynamed

Dynamed is an evidence-based, point-of-care reference tool to help you to deal with clinical questions as they arise in practice. It is available to UHNM staff only. Login You will need your UHNM Athens account to login to Dynamed. Go to our Healthcare Resources page , click the Dynamed option and login when prompted. Screen-shot of the Dynamed search interface Browse You can browse through the A-Z of conditions, by selecting a letter from the A-Z. To view a topic simply click the title. New “Clinical Focus” Filter in ClinicalKey

While searching on ClinicalKey you can now apply the “Clinical Focus” filter, located under the “All Types” search filter. This will apply several filters in one go.
