NICE Guidelines
NICE guidelines have now been added to Clinical Key. You can search for guidelines only or filter your search results to guidelines only.

Procedure videos added for Cardiovascular Medicine
31 new videos have been added to the Procedures Consult collection in Clinical Key.

Clinical Key is available to UHNM staff only via your NHS Athens username.

Nursing Revalidation – written reflective accounts

Here is some help from the NMC about writing reflective accounts. Nurses need to write 5 reflective accounts during their 3 year revalidation period.

You can also find help in the library. We have a range of books about reflective practice at classmark RT73 or you can check out the range of ebooks that we have.

NHS staff from our NHS partners can join the library. We have more than just books to help support your work. With your library card you will be able to:
  • Borrow items from the library (we have DVDs as well as books)
  • Request Inter-Library Loans
  • Access the Keele network via walk-in access
  • Pay for photocopying and printing
  • Access the library during evenings and weekends
Why don’t you come along and join. Complete our application form and bring it with your NHS ID to the library counter; we can set up you up there and then.

Clinical Key has now been purchased for our UHNM users only. Clinical Key offers you:

  • Clinical Specialist Search Engine
  • SmartSearch to find answers quickly
  • Access to ebooks
  • Full-text ejournals
  • Evidence-based topics
  • Images & Videos

You will need an NHS Athens username / password to log in to Clinical Key. If you don’t already have an Athens username register online by completing this online form. For more help using Athens see our web page.

If you link to Clinical Key from the link on the Health Library Healthcare Resources page then you will go straight to the Athens login page. Otherwise from the Clinical Key login page, make sure that you click the OpenAthens login link and enter your Athens username / password when prompted.

To use many of the really useful features such as downloading ebooks, saving searches and using the presentation maker you will need to Activate your account. This links your Athens account to an Elsevier account. You won’t need to log in twice. This account will keep track of your saved items (such as saved searches, reading lists etc) within Clinical Key.
After you have logged in, if your name is displayed in the top left, then you have already activated your account – note that you may have already done this if you have used Elsevier ScienceDirect ejournals. Otherwise click on the Activate link.

Start Searching
Now you are ready to start searching.

Access eBooks, eJournals and Databases Online

NHS staff can access ebooks, ejournals and databases online by registering for an NHS Athens username and password.

This single username will allow you to access the online resources that the library subscribes to.

Complete the online form to register now and start accessing resources online. For more help using your NHS Athens username see our Athens help page.

Nursing Revalidation – forms and templates from the NMC

If you are starting to complete the new nursing revalidation portfolio, you can download the NMC’s mandatory and recommended forms and templates. Forms include:

  • Practice hours log
  • CPD log
  • Reflective Accounts form
  • Reflective discussion form (with guidance sheet)
There are also some examples of completed forms for you to have a look at.

Get updates in your email inbox

Make sure you don’t miss out on any new blog posts. You can get updates sent straight to your email inbox.

Updates are provided via Google Feedburner but you don’t’ need to have a google account to use it.

Simply enter your email address in the “Follow by email” box on the blog (see right) and click “Submit”. Complete the pop-up form, you will be sent an email, follow the instructions it contains to confirm your request. You will then receive updates via email.

The Health Library subscribes to BMJ Case Reports for UHNM staff.

Here you will find:

  • Peer-reviewed articles
  • Unusual clinical cases
  • Common and rare conditions
  • Available in full-text to UHNM NHS Athens users

Share your knowledge by submitting your own case report. It is a great opportunity to get published, with high acceptance rates. For more information see our BMJ Case Reports guide page – ask me for the fellowship code.

To access the NHS subscription: Go to our Healthcare Resources web page and page down to the BMJ Case Reports link. You will need to log in using your NHS Athens username / password.

Pharmaceutical Journal – now accessible via NHS Athens

The Pharmaceutical Journal is purchased for staff at UHNM and is now available via your UHNM Athens username. From the login screen click the “OpenAthens” option, then select NHS England from the drop-down list and enter your Athens username / password when prompted.

All subscribed journals can be accessed from the NHS Journals list.
