Save your HDAS searches and alerts

  Are you dependent on your HDAS alerts? Have you saved your favourite HDAS searches? You’ll need to move them! HDAS – healthcare databases advanced search - is being withdrawn 31 st March 2022. You will not be able to use HDAS after this date. If you have any saved alerts or searches that you want to keep you will need to move them to the database platforms. What are the database platforms? The main NHS databases – such as CINAHL, Medline, Embase, PsyInfo etc – are hosted on the Ebsco , Proquest or Ovid platforms. Which database and platform do I need? You will need your NHS OpenAthens username / password to log in to the platforms. Log on to the Ebsco platform for NHS databases

 Complete your in-depth literature search using Ebsco databases. To search the Ebsco databases you'll need to log in using your NHS OpenAthens username. Which databases can you search? Ebsco is host to a range of specialist, research, healthcare databases, purchased for NHS users. You can search Cinahl , Medline and Medline with full-text . Not sure which database you need? Proquest is host to a range of specialist, research, healthcare databases, purchased for NHS users. You can search the British Nursing Index (BNI) , Medline , PsycArticles and PsychInfo databases.  What are the NHS resources you need to give you the best evidence? HDAS is the Healthcare Databases Advanced Search interface that allows NHS OpenAthens users to perform literature searches across a range of healthcare specialist databases. HDAS is closing 31st March 2022 and from that point onwards you will not be able to use the product. What can you do? You can let us do the work for you! If work in the NHS and you need to find the latest evidence in your specialty or topic, get in touch with our Literature Search Service team and we'll do the work for you. Our team are experienced, qualified librarians, with expertise in searching all our major resources. We'll develop a search plan from your criteria, execute it against the relevant databases and send you a list of articles and resources that match your needs. HDAS is closing - what can you do?

  HDAS is the Healthcare Databases Advanced Search interface that allows NHS OpenAthens users to perform literature searches across a range of healthcare specialist databases. HDAS is closing 31st March 2022 and from that point onwards you will not be able to use the product. What can you do? Upskill to using the host platforms to search the healthcare databases You will still have access to the major healthcare databases such as Cinahl, Embase, Medline, PsycInfo etc. After March 31st you will need to search these databases by using their host platforms. Check our NHS Databases help page for tutorials and videos on using the host platforms. Search the new NHS Knowledge and Library Hub NHS HEE have released a new search product called the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub.  NICE are withdrawing HDAS - the interface that allows you to search the healthcare databases from a single interface. After the 31st March 2022 you will no longer be able to use this product to complete literature searches against databases such as Cinahl, Embase, Medline, PsycInfo etc. Please check this blog regularly for more details.

Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines for Psychiatry purchased for NHS staff

  The Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines  in Psychiatry   is the essential evidence-based handbook on the safe and effective prescribing of psychotropic agents. This title has been purchased by HEE for all NHS staff. You will need to log in with your NHS OpenAthens username. Check our NHS Resources page for links to NHS resources. Social Policy and Practice database now available to NHS staff

  Social Policy and Practice is a bibliographic database providing access to social care  related content. It is now available to all staff within NHS England.  You can search the database via the Ovid platform. It will also be incorporated into the NHS Knowledge & Discovery Hub.    Social   Policy  and Practice brings together data from the following 5 leading collections of  social   policy  and practice resources: AgeInfo - Centre for  Policy  on Ageing NSPCC - National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Planex - IDOX Information Service Social Care Online -  Social  Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) ChildData – National Children’s Bureau (NCB)  Go to our NHS Resources page for all links to NHS resources.  Log in with your NHS OpenAthens username to search the database.

Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS): new topics and updates

 From NICE: NICE Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) topics  are aimed at healthcare professionals working in primary and first contact care in the UK. The 370 topics cover 1000 clinical presentations or patient scenarios and are free to access. The following CKS topics have been created or updated over the past months: October: Angio-oedema and anaphylaxis  – the topic has been updated to align with the Resuscitation Council UK guideline  Emergency treatment of anaphylaxis. Guidelines for healthcare providers . Recommendations to routinely administer IV or IM chlorphenamine and hydrocortisone have been removed from this topic. Bunions  – the section on Assessment has been moved to the diagnosis section to improve clarity and navigation and an additional section on surgical management has been added to the management section. Heart failure – chronic  – advice to add iron studies as part of the assessment of a person with heart failure and to manage comorbidity of hypertension was added
