The Bone and Joint Journal is a specialist orthopaedic title, publishing articles and research to support this specialty and related branches of surgery. It was previously known as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (British Volume). It is published by the British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery, a registered charity. It is a key journal for those working in orthopaedic surgery.

This journal is in the top 10 list of impactful journals for the category of orthopaedics, as determined by the journal impact factor (2024, Journal Citation Report, Web of Science, accessed 03/01/2024).

Journal Impact Factor (JIF)

The Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is the most widely quoted metric and has traditionally been the gold standard. It gives an overall value indicating the average number of times research articles and reviews have been cited by other articles/journals. Typically, it has been an indicator of the impact and influence of a journal on published research in a subject category. However, it is not necessarily an indicator of quality and there is some debate these days regarding its value. You can find the JIF of a journal by typing “impact factor” along with the journal name into Google. I have used Web of Science to find information about the JIF.

Cinahl is a nursing specialist database that can help you to find good quality articles and evidence. Once you have run a search you can view the list of articles returned. Page Options You can arrange your results in different formats on the page. For example, show up to 50 articles on one page to avoid a lot of paging; include the abstract so that you can check whether the article is about your topic quickly.
