Search the NHS Hub for articles full-text

 Got an article title you want to find but don’t have the full reference? Maybe a colleague has told you about a good article to read but they don’t have all the details. How can you find it?

Here is an example: Health-related quality of life in youth with type 1 diabetes by Shapira

Search for the full-text by article title

1. Go to the Health Library web page Articles for the NHS.

2. Page down to the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub section.

3. Enter your article title in double quotes.

4. Click the “Search” button.

You will be taken to the Hub search results article page. What if the search returns lots of results? What can you do?

Use the filter options

Select from the various filter options to focus the number of entries in the search results. You might try:

  • publication date range if you know the journal is recent
  • journal article source type
  • subject filter option

Use the Hub advanced search options

Use the advanced search to focus your results. Click “Advanced Search” from the Hub results page (under the search box).

In this example I can add the author’s name to the search criteria. See the screen-shot where I have entered “shapiro” and seleced author.

Full-text options are presented with the article in the search results. Options available may include:

  • Download PDF
  • Article Link
  • Request Article

If the full-text is available you may be prompted to enter your NHS OpenAthens username to access the full-text.

If full-text is not available you may be presented with our print journal collection or asked to complete an article request form.

Resource of the week #15: NICE Pathways

What is it? NICE Pathways are interactive flowcharts for topics and conditions Key Features You can use the main search box to look for your topic, or use the A-Z list to find a particular condition. You can also view broader topics and drill-down to individual flowcharts. Flowcharts include points of decision-making as a patient travels along the pathway or route to assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Each decision-box includes information and evidence detailing what should be carried out. How can it help you? The NICE Pathways tool can provide you with guidance and advice on topics and conditions. It can help you to assess your own services and apply NICE guidance and recommendations. How to access it?
