DynamedPlus is our newly upgraded point of care tool. It is available
to staff at UHNM via Athens login.
DynamedPlus has a range of features. You can view a short introductory
video here:
In this blog post we’ll be looking at completing a simple search.
The DynamedPlus home page provides you with simple search facilities.
Searching DynamedPlus
1. Enter your text.
You can start to search by entering text into the search box. DynamedPlus
will prompt you with suggestions; you can either select one of the suggestions
or continue with your own text. In this example I have started to enter my text
“breast cancer”.
I’m going to look for “breast cancer in post-menopausal women”. Click
the “Search” button to run the search.
2. View Results
DynamedPlus presents the search results to you, highlighting your
search terms.
To view a section, click the title.
3. View a Condition Topic page
Diseases and conditions held within DynamedPlus will have a topic page
which provides comprehensive, evidence-based information about that topic. This
is presented in an easy-to-read format where content is broken down into
sections.
In this example I’ve chosen to look at the topic “Breast Cancer in
Women”. Topic pages will often contain an overview of the conditions as well as
sections on epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis and treatment or management. The
sections available will be listed in the menu list on the left-hand-side.
- You can use the “Search within text” option to search for a term within the topic.
- You can use the menu options to go straight to the section you need.
- You can click the Updates [+] option to view the latest updates in the topic.
4. View References
Each topic within DynamedPlus will include a References section. Where
the full-text is available either as open access or via an ebsco subscription,
you will be able to link through to the full-text item. Note that you should
check the NHS Journals List for non-ebsco journals to see if you have access
elsewhere.
5. View Topic
Here is another example of a topic page from my results list. This is a
smaller topic for a more specific search and you can see that the related topic
pages are listed. The menu options are more specific.
Again use the menu options to click to the relevant sections, where you'll find an easy to read summary of the evidence.
