Hints and Tips about Using your NHS Athens username and password

Here are a few hints & tips to help you to make the most of your NHS Athens username and password.

Registering:

Register via the online form – this is the simplest way to register for an Athens username / password and should only take a few minutes. There is plenty of help on the online form.

Select the right organisation – make sure you select the trust that you work for so that your application is processed quickly by the system.

Use your NHS-based email account – use an NHS email address based at the trust you are applying for. The system will be able to authorise you and you can get started straight away. Personal email addresses such as google and Hotmail accounts will be rejected.

Complete Address – make sure you complete your work location. This helps us to identify you if there are any problems.

Your Username / Password:

Setting your password – once you have submitted the form you will be sent an email; you need to carry out the instructions it contains to complete the registration and set your password.

You can also use your email address to log in (in place of your username).

If you have forgotten your password use the option on the login screen to reset it.

Accessing Resources:

Check the Healthcare Resources page for links to our subscribed resources.

Check the journals A-Z list for journal titles, holdings and access.

If you need to login to a resource, look for the OpenAthens login link (usually quite a small link)
