Get updates from the British Journal of Healthcare Assistants straight to your inbox

 Staff working at UHNM have full-text access to the British Journal of Healthcare Assistants. This journal provides easy to read articles covering good practice in all areas of healthcare. Staff working in, or towards, roles as healthcare or nursing assistants and assistant practitioners will find good quality, evidence-based articles to support their training and work.

This blog post will show you how to sign up for journal updates to get the latest articles. The email sent to you takes the form of an eToC – this is an electronic table of contents. It is basically a list of all the articles published in an issue, and includes links to the articles.

Sign up for journal updates

1. Go to the journal page

See our blog post How to log in to the British Journal of Healthcare Assistants to find out how to get to the journal page.

2. Set up your account to receive updates

Click the alert icon on the journal home page – this looks like a bell.

You will need to create a personal account so that the publisher knows where to send the updates. Create your account by clicking Sign up.

Enter your name and email where you want the updates sent. Click Continue. You will be sent an email. Follow the instructions to complete the set up.

Note that this account is only for managing your updates. You will still need your NHS OpenAthens username / password to access full-text.

3. Log in to set up your updates

Go to the home page again and click the alert icon. Log in using the email and password that you have just created. Go to the Alerts section of your account.

You can now set up your updates. Start by selecting how often you want to receive updates.

Then go right to the bottom of the page to click Submit to complete the process. You should now start to receive your updates in your inbox.

4. Switch off your updates

To stop receiving the updates, go to the journal home page again. Click the alert icon and log in. Then go to the Alerts section and untick the journal from the list. Click Submit to save the change.

Clinical Key events for March 2026
