Finding eBooks on the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub – step-by-step instructions

 The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub is a discovery tool that allows you to search across a range of NHS and healthcare-based resources. The types of resources includes journals, databases and ebooks.

eBooks offer you easy access to key established information. We purchase books from a number of platforms and you can search some of them from the Knowledge and Library Hub.

Find ebooks on the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub

1. Log in to the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub

2. Enter your search criteria

Enter the keywords for your topic or the title of the book you are looking for. You will be presented with suggested text. You can select one of these or continue with your own text.

Click the “search” button to run your search.

3. View results

Results matching your search criteria are presented.

4. Use the filter options to focus your search

If too many results are returned or you can’t easily see what you are looking for, you can use the filter options on the left-hand-side to focus your results.

5. Focus by Source Type

Use the filter “source type” to limit your results to books and ebooks. Click the “update” button to apply the filter.

6. Select content from the search results

The number of items in the list is reduced by the filters. You can see the filters being applied on the left-hand-side. Click the “x” to remove a filter.

To view the content in the results list click the “online access” button.

7. View full-text

If the full-text is available you are taken to the host platform where that content is held. In this example you are taken to view the ebook on the Kortext platform.

Login to Library Search – step-by-step instructions for NHS staff

  Library Search is a discovery tool, allowing you to find items within the library collections. You can search Library Search without logging in to view books and ebooks available in our collections. By logging in to your library account on Library Search you can access a range of additional functionality, such as: Viewing details of your library account Submitting a request to hold a book for you Adding items to your e-bookshelf Saving searches Note that for NHS users logging in to Library Search does not give you access to full-text items. As an NHS member of staff you access online resources using your NHS OpenAthens username.
