Ovid Search Builder - helping you to create your search strategy

 You can use the Ovid Search Builder tool to help you to create sophisticated search strategies easily; to find the information you need quickly.

What is the Ovid Search Builder Tool?

The Ovid Search Builder tool is an interface that guides you through the steps needed to help you to create complex but focussed search strategies. 

  • You can add keywords that can then be mapped to synonyms and database thesaurus terms
  • You can select from a range of filters to focus your search
  • You can set alerts so that you stay up-to-date with the latest research matching your search criteria

How do you access it?

The Ovid Search Builder is only available via Ovid databases. These are only available to our NHS users via the native Ovid database interface. You'll find a link to Ovid on our NHS Resources page. Select the Ovid link and log in with your NHS OpenAthens username. The Ovid Search Builder button is on the top menu bar.

How do you use it?

The Search Builder tool is easy to use. Enter your keywords into the search box. You can add extra rows for each keyword. Then select any database descriptors and synonyms from the lists available. Next select from the range of specialised filters.

You can also view broader topics and drill-down to individual flowcharts. Flowcharts include points of decision-making as a patient travels along the pathway or route to assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Each decision-box includes information and evidence detailing what should be carried out. How can it help you? The NICE Pathways tool can provide you with guidance and advice on topics and conditions. It can help you to assess your own services and apply NICE guidance and recommendations. How to access it? Keele A-Z eJournal List: Resource of the week #33

What is it? The Keele A-Z eJournals List details all the online journal titles that Keele University subscribes to. Key Features You can use the list to: Browse for a title using the A-Z links Search for a journal title View the holdings available Use the online link to go to the journal page and access the full-text How can it help you? The Keele A-Z journal list helps you to find the full-text of articles. Full-text may not always be via the publisher page, thus it is always important to check the A-Z to see if the title is available elsewhere eg a database or other platform. NHS library members may have access to Keele networked resources via the Keele network. Ask for a temporary login at the counter. How to access it? The Keele journals A-Z list is available on the Internet via Library Search . You do not need a log in to see what is available on the list.
