What is it?
The Health Library Training Programme is a schedule of face-to-face training courses, designed to help you to develop your information skills. It is issued every 3 months.

Key Features
The courses available include
  • Health Library Induction Plus – where you can get an introduction to the library facilities, services and resources as well as an overview of some of the most important online healthcare resources.
  • Literature Searching using databases – this course is provided in 2 versions, one covering NHS-based databases and one covering Keele-subscribed databases. You’ll learn how to create a search strategy and apply it to specialist healthcare databases.
  • Evidence-based Databases – this is another course available as either an NHS or Keele version. Here you’ll learn about secondary evidence-based resources such as the Cochrane Library along with others.
  • Critical Appraisal for Beginners – start developing your critical appraisal skills and practice appraising a research paper. You can book on the course to appraise either a qualitative paper or a randomised controlled trial.
  • RefWorks – this course is available to Keele students to help them to get to grips with Refworks, the Keele-subscribed reference manager software.
All our courses are delivered by qualified librarians. They include plenty of opportunity to practice your skills.

You can search Library Search without logging in to view books and ebooks available in our collections. By logging in to your library account on Library Search you can access a range of additional functionality, such as: Viewing details of your library account Submitting a request to hold a book for you Adding items to your e-bookshelf Saving searches Note that for NHS users logging in to Library Search does not give you access to full-text items. As an NHS member of staff you access online resources using your NHS OpenAthens username. CASP Checklist – complete online and download

You can now complete the CASP (Critical Appraisal Skills Programme) checklist online, then download and save it. Use the CASP checklists to help you to critically appraise different published research studies. You can now complete the form online, then download and save to your computer.
