Resource of the week #16: PEDro

What is it?
PEDro is a physiotherapy evidence database. It provides a searchable database of hundreds of thousands of high-level research papers such as:
  • Randomised controlled trials
  • Systematic reviews
  • Clinical practice guidelines
Where possible a link to the full-text is given, however you may need to check our (Keele and NHS) databases for access or request an inter-library loan.

Key Features
You can use the simple search interface or the advanced search interface to search for publications. The advanced search function allows you to select from a range of drop-down lists for:
  • Therapy
  • Problem
  • Body Part
  • Subdiscipline
  • Topic

This can help you to focus your search.

Here is an example of a search item.

You can also sign-up for the “Evidence in your Inbox” bulletin. You will then receive the latest additions to the database directly in your inbox.

How can it help you?
This is a really useful database if you are studying or researching treatments related to the physical therapies.

How to access it?
The PEDro website is freely available on the Internet where you can search it. You may need to check the subscriptions at your institution to be able to access the full-text of the articles.

More Help
You can find more information about the PEDro website from the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of the website. This includes information about how articles are selected to be added to the database.

You can find help on how to use the search tools on the PEDro website from the Search Help section.

The PEDro website also includes a tutorials section where you can find help relating to:
  • How to ask a clinical question
  • Is the trial valid?
  • Is the therapy clinically useful?
  • PEDro scale training program
