Support for management in the NHS via your NHS OpenAthens username

I thought I would just send out a reminder to encourage you to use the resources we have at the Health Library to support leaders and management staff in the NHS. Our resources give you access to a wealth of information, research and support to help you to make evidence-based decisions.

Journals

Journals provide you with the latest research, examples of best practice, support for professional development and expert commentary. Use your NHS OpenAthens username to access full-text from our subscribed journal collection, including:

British Journal of Healthcare Management – a leading journal published monthly, focusing on management and leadership in the healthcare sector. You’ll find peer-reviewed research articles, literature reviews, service evaluations, quality improvement, practice reviews, reports and commentaries. Topics include health technology, infrastructure, staff satisfaction and wellbeing, patient safety, integrated care and healthcare education and training.
Recent articles include:

Nursing Management – published by the RCN, this title gives advice for senior managers, nurses in leadership roles and aspiring nurse leaders across all nursing disciplines. You’ll find original research, descriptions and case studies of service or professional development, literature reviews and opinion articles.

KnowledgeShare for Evidence Updates

Remember that you can request KnowledgeShare Updates – you can register your interested topics; then emails including links to a range of different types of information on those topics will be sent to your inbox. Topics include education, management and leadership, information management, patient experience, quality improvement, safety, service design and much more. Complete our form to make your request.

Keeping up-to-date with journals

You can sign-up to receive regular table of content updates for individual journal titles. You will receive an email notification when a new issue is published along with links to the articles in that issue. If you are already registered for KnowledgeShare Evidence Updates you can add journal table of contents updates to your profile (if available). Just let me know which journals you are interested in. You’ll find a list of healthcare-based journals on our Browzine list (note that we do not subscribe to the full list).

Resource of the week #1: Getting Started eTutorials

What is it? The Getting Started etutorials are a suite of online tutorials aiming to help you get started using our major resources. Key Features You’ll find out what information is available to you from the resource; how to access the resource; plus many more useful features. Our etutorials include interactive elements, step-by-step instructions and videos. Most tutorials are very short and each tutorial includes a menu so you can jump to the bit you need. You can download the etutorial reflection document at the end of the etutorial to keep a record of what you have learnt. Why not add this to your portfolio as a record of your development? What is it? Web of Science is a multidisciplinary database covering science, social sciences and arts and humanities. It offers access to research tools like citation reports and cited reference searching, and personalised features such as saved searches and alerts.
