Problems with the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub

All elements of the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub have now been implemented by Health Education England Library and Knowledge Service (HEE LKS).

The Hub is a discovery service allowing NHS users to search across a range of selected resources. You can then either link directly to full-text, when a subscription is available, or make a request for a copy of the full-text. The service uses LibKey Browzine to present full-text options.

We are still encountering some problems, so just to make you aware:

Print Journal Titles

Print journal titles are not being displayed in a helpful manner within the Hub. This means that you can't tell if a title is available on the shelf within the library. This has been reported and we are assured that a fix will be provided [INC-1683]. Please note that all print journals, including holdings available, are also listed on Library Search.

Journals available via IP address access

We have 2 journals titles that are not available via OpenAthens login and are only available via IP address. This means that these titles can only be accessed on the UHNM network or at the library. These titles are resulting in an error if accessed from Browzine. The titles are Cancer Research and Clinical Cancer Research. This has been reported to HEE [INC-1089].

Access to Ovid Journals

We have had reports of intermittent problems accessing Ovid journals from links via Browzine. This results in a "not found" error (or similar) for the article you are trying to access. It does seem to be intermittent and erratic and we can't isolate why the problem is happening with some articles but not others. This has been reported to Ovid. You can also search the Ovid database for article titles.

Access to RCNi Journals

We are finding that some links to RNCi journal articles are not going to the article page but are landing on the journal page instead. This seems to be erratic. To access the article full-text, login to the RCNi site with your NHS OpenAthens username, then search for the article title. You should then be able to view the full-text. This problem has been reported to HEE [INC-1585]. Please contact the library if you experience any problems accessing full-text from RCNi.

Requesting eBooks

Unexpectedly some ebooks are listed on the Hub which are not available in full-text. You will be offered the "request this item" option in this case. Unfortunately the system has not been designed for this consequence and the form presented is the article request form. Don't be alarmed by this, simply complete your details and send the request to us. We will decipher the request. This has been reported to HEE [INC-1133]

Found a problem?

If you encounter any problems using NHS-based online resources or trying to access full-text, please contact the library so that we can investigate, correct the problem and get you to the information you need.
