BMJ Best Practice login instructions - revised

BMJ Best Practice is a clinical decision support tool, offering you a wealth of information to support patient care. It is available to all NHS staff in England.

I am revising the instructions for logging in as some users recently experienced problems.

Route 1: via the Health Library website

This method takes you straight to the OpenAthens login page.
   1. Go to the NHS Resources page on the Health Library website
   2. Find the entry for BMJ Best Practice and click the link
   3. Enter your NHS OpenAthens username / password and click Submit

Route 2: via BMJ Best Practice home page

You will need to select your institution via this method.
   1. Search Google for BMJ Best Practice or go directly to their website
   2. Click Login (top right)
   3. Select the Access through Your Institution option
   4. You'll then need to find the institution for your Trust or use NHS in England
If you work for:
  • UHNM then enter and select University Hospitals of North Midlands
  • North Staffs Combined Healthcare then enter and select North Staffs Combined Healthcare
  • CCGs or GP practice in Staffordshire then enter and select GPs, practice staff and CCG staff in Staffordshire
If you are a student with an NHS OpenAthens account provided by your university then enter and select NHS in England
   5. You should then be prompted for your OpenAthens username / password; enter your details and log in.

Personal Account

All users are required to set up a personal account with BMJ. This will provide you with a personalised experience whilst using BMJ, by providing you with updates to content you have viewed and allowing you to use the CPD options to record your activity and reflections.

You will also need your BMJ personal account to log on to the BMJ Best Practice app. For more details on accessing the app see our help page.

Login to Library Search ā€“ step-by-step instructions for NHS staff

  Library Search is a discovery tool, allowing you to find items within the library collections. You can search Library Search without logging in to view books and ebooks available in our collections. By logging in to your library account on Library Search you can access a range of additional functionality, such as: Viewing details of your library account Submitting a request to hold a book for you Adding items to your e-bookshelf Saving searches Note that for NHS users logging in to Library Search does not give you access to full-text items.   BMJ Best Practice is a key tool to help you make confident, clinical decisions and provide best care to your patients. Key Evidence BMJ Best Practice has a user-friendly design, making it easy for you to access evidence-based information on a wide range of clinical conditions and diseases. Content includes recommendations, guidelines and best practice covering background, diagnosis, treatments, prognosis, clinical calculators and more. Some conditions have co-morbidities linked. Patient information leaflets help you support your patients. Content is regularly updated and always referenced. Get Access  BMJ Best Practice is available to all NHS staff.
