BMJ Best Practice login instructions - revised

BMJ Best Practice is a clinical decision support tool, offering you a wealth of information to support patient care. It is available to all NHS staff in England.

I am revising the instructions for logging in as some users recently experienced problems.

Route 1: via the Health Library website

This method takes you straight to the OpenAthens login page.
   1. Go to the NHS Resources page on the Health Library website
   2. Find the entry for BMJ Best Practice and click the link
   3. Enter your NHS OpenAthens username / password and click Submit

Route 2: via BMJ Best Practice home page

You will need to select your institution via this method.
   1. Search Google for BMJ Best Practice or go directly to their website
   2. Click Login (top right)
   3. Select the Access through Your Institution option
   4. You'll then need to find the institution for your Trust or use NHS in England
If you work for:
  • UHNM then enter and select University Hospitals of North Midlands
  • North Staffs Combined Healthcare then enter and select North Staffs Combined Healthcare
  • CCGs or GP practice in Staffordshire then enter and select GPs, practice staff and CCG staff in Staffordshire
If you are a student with an NHS OpenAthens account provided by your university then enter and select NHS in England
   5. You should then be prompted for your OpenAthens username / password; enter your details and log in.

Personal Account

All users are required to set up a personal account with BMJ. This will provide you with a personalised experience whilst using BMJ, by providing you with updates to content you have viewed and allowing you to use the CPD options to record your activity and reflections.

You will also need your BMJ personal account to log on to the BMJ Best Practice app. For more details on accessing the app see our help page.
